Bridging Generation Gap

"Relationships are based on four principles: respect, understanding, acceptance and appreciation."

As we all know that a generation gap  is a difference of opinions between one generation and another regarding beliefs, politics or values.

The problem of generation gap is universal and everybody across the world faces the unchangeable problem. In today's usage, generation gap occurs between parents and children or sometimes with your co-workers.

Many of us lives in a joint family. The unity that exist in the family is the positive indication but it should not lead to negative consequences.

Most of our elders were born during the time of independence and post-independence. So many time we heard some stories from our grandparents of their own time when they were kids how they live and how they sacrifice so many things because they were facing so many problems. They have personally viewed and experienced the pain of suffering and the hardships involved to earn daily bread. They have compromised most of their desires and struggle to bring up family.

We are born in such a phase where economic changes took place in our country. We have seen so many changes in economy, culture and education. Education led to jobs and we got our daily bread easily.

Today, people won’t be satisfied with just a bread, our needs are satisfied now but our wants are endless. That is also because so many factors around us create that scenario, that being our lifestyle, society, class, status and all.

If you ask me personally about this thing I would also agree that we all face this gap because our opinion never match with our elders and most of the expectations are direct results of the generation upbringing. As the time is changing quickly, technologies are improving day by day, the education system change frequently and the lifestyle is changing rapidly.

We all want to live our life according to our own selfish way but our parents, being wise, guides us to be practical in every situation, the only reason being to make us understand. Some of us may take this as burden. I wonder some of us ever tried to understand, “why they stop us from doing such things?” Do we ever ask them what is the reason behind them being protective.

Do our parents ever understand us? Can’t they try to be like us or least agree to us for some of the things? Why there is always a conflict between parents and children?

Well, our parents were born in rather simpler time. In those times they were living very simple life with no bars to go, no clubs to dance and no cellular phones. Social media was not even a thing during that time.

On the other side, we are born in a time were social media tend to became everyday routine of life, where practicality has widen in thoughts. Where emotions has less value then materials for some people and wants are more important than home. The change in mentality has widen so much in such a short elapse of time.

The mistake here lies on both the sides, parents should realize and give in a way of respect for the fact that kids are growing and that they have to learn from their own mistakes.

While we should be thankful and considerate about the love and care with which they were natured and look after.

In order to avoid such situation, it is important to understand and take into consideration the difference on both ends of generation scale.

Every problem has a solution and fortunately enough, this also has one. The only thought that occurs in one's mind when in complicated relation is"I will talk it through", isn't it?

Communication is a key solution in any relation. Whether it be a parent-children or husband-wife or two friends. Ask your parents "what is the reason behind their motives “whenever you disagree with them and vice-versa for their kids.

If either one of them can do this and understand each other then, both of them can happily be at ease. Don't you think so?

Communication is the bridge to the generation gap. Talk about the things you like, share your thoughts or at least, let one try to understand you. After this, you will find that you understand each other more, get to know the perspective of each other and if even there be a decade gap between you and your elderly, then too you will find each other happily living together!

  3. In-spite of fast growing culture, children must try to understand their elder’s words as they already passed their age. And young generation must know that parents always make us go through the correct path.
